Laser Eye Treatment

Those who have nearsightedness or myopic eyesight may wish to correct their vision by means of laser eye surgery. However, before embarking on such a procedure, one must consider the side effects of laser eye surgery. Yes we all know that laser eye surgery can correct vision problems and remove the hassle of wearing those eye glasses and contact lenses. But is it really worth it, considering the permanent damage that laser eye surgery can cause to the optics and physiology of our eye? This article is aimed at raising some of the side effects of laser eye surgery.

Take for instance the LASIK surgical procedure. With this type of laser eye surgery, surgeons fold back the eye’s cornea surface and remove calculated amounts of tissues and then place back the eye cornea to its proper position. The drawback of the LASIK procedure is that it changes the optics and physiology of the patient’s eye. Numerous people who have endured this procedure have not only found that their vision has not improved, but their eye sight problem has been exacerbated by this eye procedure. We all know that the benefits of laser eye removal can remove the hassles of wearing contact lenses or glasses, but are you ready to bear the alarming and palpable risk of permanent damage to your eyesight?

In the report entitled “Review of Optometry”, it is stated that one in every six patients who experienced the LASIK laser eye procedure has faced numerous side effects and eye complications. This ratio is indeed an alarming one to bear.

Some of the side effects and complications that arise from LASIK eye surgeries are: distortion of the patient’s vision causing irregular astigmatism. And neither eye glasses nor lenses can correct this complication. Other patients indicated that their vision’s quality has been deteriorated with the LASIK eye surgery leaving them with a very ‘bad dry-eye’. Additionally, some people have experienced double and triple vision due to this type of laser eye procedure. These side effects and complications are very alarming and should be considered by all those who are pondering whether or not to adopt laser eye surgery as a means of improving their vision.

There are some patients who experienced positive results from LASIK laser eye surgery. One such person is ‘Richard Branson of the Virgin fame’. Branson posited that this procedure has transformed his life into a life worth living. He further indicated that he now has a perfect vision as compared to being almost ‘blind as a bat’ previously.

However, Margaret Dolen being a victim of LASIK laser eye surgery has experienced adverse eye complications such as the dry eye syndrome. She needs to apply artificial tears to her eyes several times throughout the day and night to keep her eyes moist. This can be very distressing and frustrating for all those victims who experienced these side effects.

So if you are deciding whether or not to undergo laser eye surgery or LASIK laser eye surgery, please be sure to consider the effects of laser eye surgery and its complications. It is wise for you to do an overall research on the topic before embarking towards this procedure. The side effects of laser eye surgery can jeopardize your intention of having a comfortable and easy going life.
